“The Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa strikes me as a place where history meets modern relaxation, particularly with its extensive spa facilities and gardens. It's a grand building in a convenient location for exploring Buxton, and what I appreciate most is its capacity to host large events while still feeling personal. I think the affordability, especially given the current hotel landscape, makes it a standout choice for a visit to the Peak District.”

Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
The Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton is often praised for its prime location, making it easy to explore the town centre and attractions like the Buxton Opera House. Guests frequently mention the spacious rooms and find the leisure facilities, including the swimming pool and steam room, a welcome addition, sometimes available at a discounted rate. While most find the hotel clean and comfortable after its recent makeover, a few guests have noted that some corridors appear tired and could benefit from refurbishment. The convenience of 24-hour parking for £5 is also a recurring positive point for many visitors.

town center swimming pool facilities changing facilities tired corridors wooden bed filthy spa
The location is fantastic for the town center. I found the swimming pool facilities much BETTER than I expected. Good changing facilities and showers were available.
The corridors looked tired and are in need of decorating and new carpets. I found the bed to be a VERY old wooden bed and it had the most horrendous squeak. The spa was a joke and it was filthy.

the refurbished downstairs areas looked really lovely, i thought. the staircase looked nice too. the breakfast was really good with a huge variety. we felt this stay offered the best value..
the steam room and sauna are both tiny. they also look very dilapidated with stained tiles and chipped steps. the pool facilities desperately need updating, i think.
Dining

Good Stay at a Classic Hotel

comfortable seating area posh toiletries coffee machine
It had a comfortable seating area offering a good view. The room included unexpected extras like soft bathrobes and posh toiletries. I found a coffee machine with coffee pods, which I liked.
The extra charge to use the spa facilities felt quite high. It cost £6 despite being a guest at the hotel. It would be better if this was included in the room rate. I think many guests would appreciate not having to pay extra.
Facilities
9/10
The hotel provides a beautiful, large main staircase and lobby area. Guests can find lots of comfy seating in the lobby and lounge. The hotel also features lovely gardens where guests can relax.
Dining
8/10
The buffet-style full English breakfast offered a great start to the day. The bar had some local ales available for sampling. The breakfast was great (especially the pancakes!).
Service
10/10
The reception staff provided excellent service. They were very helpful and cute. I appreciate the waitress at dinner with the dark hair. She was super helpful and very kind. I like it a lot.
Rooms

My Standard Double Room had a very large bed. It was comfortable. The bathroom featured both a Bible and an in-drawer hairdryer. I found the room to be well-equipped.
